When does the fourth round resume at the 2024 RBC Heritage? Why is it finishing on Monday?

Following his victory at the 2024 Masters at Augusta National, Scottie Scheffler is on the brink of winning back-to-back tournaments on the PGA Tour. However, he has been made to wait until Monday for his victory at the RBC Heritage, with play in the fourth round initially suspended at 4.28 p.m. ET on Sunday and then again shortly after 7 p.m ET.

Why was play suspended at the RBC Heritage?

Although the rain came on just after 4 p.m., PGA Tour representative Mark Dusbabek revealed the first decision to take the players off the course had, in fact, been because of the risk of lighting.

When play was eventually halted for the day due to darkness, world number one Scheffler was in the process of continuing his scintillating form. An opening 69 left him six shots behind first-round leader J.T. Poston but he followed up with a six-under 65 on Friday and an eight-under 63 on Saturday to storm (no pun intended) to the top of the leaderboard.

When will play start on Monday?

And there looks to be no chance of him slipping from top spot when play resumes on Monday at 8 a.m. ET.

Scheffler’s big lead with three holes to play

Scheffler is one of only nine players who have still to complete their final round, with the New Jersey native having three holes to play alongside playing partner Sepp Straka.

The Austrian started Sunday just a shot behind the Masters champion but is two-over par for his round, while Scheffler is four-under through 15 holes, which has enabled him to build up a five-shot lead at 20-under for the tournament.

Four players are tired in second place on 15-under par, but Wyndham Clark is already in the clubhouse, and Poston and Patrick Cantlay have just the 18th remaining.

Like the leader, Sahith Theegala also has three holes to play but only an unprecedented collapse will prevent Scheffler from recording a fourth victory in his last five events. He finished second in the one he didn’t win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open at the end of March.
