LPGA golfers set for $131m prize money in 2025
The LPGA Tour has received a considerable boost ahead of the 75th anniversary season in 2025. The 33-event tour begins at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Florida on January 30, with a significant increase in prize money.
Golfers will compete for a total $131 million in tournament prize money across the course of the year, the largest amount in the history of the women’s game. The schedule will take players across 14 US states and another 11 countries.
The prize money on offer in 2025 is a 90% increase on what players were comPeting for in 2021. In total, there will be 16 tournaments with a prize purse of at least $3 million.
“The 2024 season was another year of historic growth for the LPGA Tour, and with this 2025 schedule we will continue to improve on that growth,” LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said on Wednesday.
“This schedule is highlighted by two exciting new events, a new multi-year title for the longest-running non-major tournament on the LPGA Tour, even higher purse sizes, increased benefits that will enhance the athlete experience, improved geographical flow and a longer offseason that will give our athletes a well-deserved rest after their tremendous work in 2024.”
What is the biggest prize purse on the LPGA Tour?
The most lucrative event on the schedule for 2025 is also the last one, the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
Played across November 20-23, the tournament will have an $11 million purse with $4 million going to the winner, the in the history of women’s golf.
Last week world No. 1 Nelly Korda secured victory at The Annika, her seventh event win of the season. She bagged $487,500 for that triumph and he season total of $4.2 million is very close to the single-season LPGA record (Loreno Ochoa, $4.4 million in 2007).
It’s a very impressive total, but it pales in comparison to the top earners in the men’s Game. Scottie Scheffler has banked $29.2 million from his seven tournament wins in 2024, the highest amount on record. It’s hoped that the new funding for 2025 will help to address the disparity between the men’s and women’s Game.
