The 2024 MLB regular season is almost upon us and with that we’re taking a look at some of the important dates such as when does spring training end and most importantly when do teams in the league announce their opening day rosters?

When does MLB spring training end?

The intense process of MLB’s spring training with its position specific report dates and finally exhibition games, is about to come to an end. Having started in mid-February, with pitchers and catchers reporting for camp as early as Monday, February 13, the process culminated with both the Cactus League in Arizona and the Grapefruit league in Florida. Now, with Opening Day set for Thursday, March 28, just two days after the end of Spring Training on Tuesday, March 26.

When do MLB teams announce their Opening Day rosters?

It’s the big question and one that’s asked every year ahead of the MLB regular season: When do MLB teams announce their opening day rosters? To be perfectly honest, there isn’t exactly a concrete answer to the question, in that there is no official date by which teams are obligated to announce their rosters. This, to some extent, is due to the fact that teams are busy making the final adjustments, compensating for injuries, or assessing who’s worthy of the spot on the team.

On the other hand, with MLB deciding to play every team’s first Game of the season on Opening Day for the second year in a row, we can expect to see the teams revealing their rosters over the next few weeks.

Of course fans can look forward to an exciting opening day lineup with everybody getting a chance to take a pop at dethroning the Texas Rangers. The first to have a bite at it will be the Chicago Cubs who will play in Arlington at 7:35 p.m. ET.

The new and improved Shohei Ohtani bolstered Los Angeles Dodgers will host the St Louis Cardinals at 4:10 p.m. ET while the now Ohtani-less Angels will Travel to Baltimore to face the Orioles at 3:05 p.m. ET.

Perhaps the most exciting opening day Game will be the New York Yankees at the Houston Astros at 4:10 p.m. ET.
