Sanele Masilela, a 9-year-old primary school student, tightly held the hand of his fiancée Saneie Masilela, 62 years old, at the wedding ceremony in the Ximhungwe area, Mpumalanga province – South Africa with the attendance of more than 100 guests.

The villagers opened their eyes wide as they witnessed the bride (married with 5 children) holding a knife to cut the wedding cake and placing a sweet kiss on the lips of the young groom Masilela.

Last year, Masilela, who lives near Tshwane, announced that he would marry Helen according to his ancestors’ wishes, causing panic in his family. However, after that, his parents brought 500 pounds of money to the bride’s house and prepared 1,000 pounds for the grand wedding.

According to wedding tradition in South Africa, the groom’s family must hold a second wedding ceremony to legalize the relationship of the “young couple”. Although the villagers were skeptical and considered the age difference wedding a farce, Masilela’s family said it was just a ritual and not legally binding.

Masilela’s 47-year-old mother said: “He is fine and feels happy about the wedding last year. That’s what it wants.” After the wedding, everything will return to normal. The bride, Helen, said that she only got married because Masilela’s ancestors wanted it and it would make the boy’s family happy. The main character in the story, Masilela innocently said: “I’m very happy to marry Helen. But I still continue to study hard. When I grow up, I want to marry someone of the same age.”

After the wedding, the couple did not live together and did not sign a marriage certificate. They return to their daily lives with the chaos of work. Some pictures from the second wedding of boy Masilela and Mrs. Helen.
