Celtic has shown interest in Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham as they draw up plans for the summer transfer window, adding the Welsh international to their list of potential signings.

The 26-year-old is now entering the final year of his contract. With his contract winding down, Mepham could be available for around £8 million, reports MailSport.

The defender, who has 33 caps for Wales , has expressed his readiness to consider a move to ensure regular playing time.

Mepham commented on his situation earlier in the season, highlighting the critical phase in his career: “I am probably – in Football terms – coming to the peak of a career now at 26. The next couple of years are important for me. It’s important to play week-in-week-out. If you are not getting the Game time you want and need, you have to be open to all options. I just think sometimes things don’t always work out as you want and sometimes there’s a better fit for you elsewhere.” [BBC]

As Celtic scouts potential reinforcements, they have yet to make a formal approach for Mepham, but his openness to new opportunities could align well with Celtic’s needs as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Gustaf Lagerbielke is expected to leave the Hoops this summer after he’s struggled to make an impact in the Celtic squad, clearly not rated highly by Rodgers. Maik Nawrocki could leave the Hoops, too. There were reports that Legia Warsaw was keen on a loan deal, but the defender wants to fight for his place at Celtic.
