Max Verstappen has backed the decision of Mercedes to introduce their huge Formula 1 upgrade package at the Monaco Grand Prix instead of waiting until Spain.

The much vaunted upgrades of the W14 finally broke cover in Monte Carlo on Thursday as Mercedes unveiled the package that was intended to debut at the cancelled Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Instead of waiting until a traditional circuit in Barcelona next weekend, Mercedes have opted to put the revised sidepods and front suspension on the W14 for the race in Monaco to gain as much data as possible before heading to Spain.

It is a decision Verstappen has fully backed as Mercedes hope the package will get them into a position to reel Red Bull in.

"I would always put it on the car as soon as possible rather than leaving it in the garage," Verstappen told media, including TheFOXposts.Com, in Monaco.

"It is really difficult to tell [what to expect from Mercedes], I think for them as well, it is a rush to understand a whole new concept.

"I don't know where it is going to be."

The World Champion also addressed rumours that 2021 title rival Hamilton could being targeted by Ferrari over a '24 drive.

But Verstappen insisted it would have no impact on him if Hamilton did head for Maranello.

"I'm not betting, I'm not interested, and it is not my problem," he said.

"It is [Lewis'] decision. I think he feels really happy at Mercedes, they've won a lot together and maybe it is good as it ups the price at Mercedes a little bit."
