The New Orleans Pelicans have started the season 3-9. After just 12 Games, it is clear that this group isn’t going anywhere in 2024-25.

To make matters worse, Zion Williamson is currently out indefinitely with a left hamstring strain.

The time has come to blow the current version of the Pelicans up. And that starts with trading Williamson.

As things presently stand, one team has emerged as the frontrunner to acquire Williamson.

That team? The Los Angeles Lakers.

It’s easy to see why L.A. would be interested, despite Williamson’s injury History. Prior to getting hurt he averaged 22.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.2 blocks per outing.

In the short-term the Lakers need front court support. Williamson could provide that.

Long-term, LeBron James has another year or so left in the league – then he is retiring.

Los Angeles needs fresh blood.

Williamson, for all his Health issues, is only 24 years old.

Rob Pelinka previously told the media that he would be willing to part with the Lakers’ first-round picks for a legitimate, franchise-changing star.

Williamson fits the bill.

Will the Pelicans actually trade Williamson to the Lakers? Time will tell. But either way, it feels like his days in New Orleans are numbered – regardless of where he ultimately gets dealt to.
