A newer restaurant in New Paltz has quietly closed their doors after only serving the area for just about two years. The news came as a surprise to some, while others wondered about the future of the Business, given the fact that the restaurant itself was listed on Facebook marketplace last year.

Rubirosa, Then Ruby Restaurant, New Paltz

During the fall of 2022, the vibrant New Paltz food scene was introduced to a brand new restaurant called Rubirosa. Offering an extensive bar menu, plenty of unique lunch and dinner options, happy hours, even elegant private events on site, many in the community quickly became fans of the new spot in town.

In May of 2023, Rubirosa announced that they would be rebranding, and moving forward would be called Ruby Restaurant and Bar. This was due to a New York City restaurant that was also called Rubirosa, and the New Paltz establishment wanting to operate with their own identity.

Ruby Restaurant on Facebook Marketplace 2023, Now Closed

In fall of 2023, just about a year after their opening and subsequent name change, it appeared that the restaurant was for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Though the posting is no longer active now 11 months later, the post indicated that the 'turnkey restaurant' was for sale for $150,000, though the price was negotiable.

Now, as of mid-September 2024, the restaurant appears to be closed for good, and without warning, too. Their last engagement on social media was months ago, and though their google listing indicates that they are still open, all signage at the restaurant's location in the New Paltz Plaza is gone, and the inside of the storefront appears vacant.

Local community members have commented in the New Paltz Community Facebook group have shared photos indicating that 'the signage is down, interior stripped & outdoor sign removed and plastered over.'

Prior to Ruby/Rubirosa, Rocco's Fine Dining operated at the 5 New Paltz Plaza location.
