Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig with an option to buy, according to a report.

Spurs have been looking to the transfer market for another forward in addition to reinforcements at centre-back, with talks ongoing with Genoa over defender Radu Dragusin.

Their interest in Werner emerged on Saturday morning, and David Ornstein of The Athletic now reports a total agreement is in place for Tottenham to take the Germany international on an initial loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season. The deal contains a purchase clause worth between £13m and £17m.

90min reported earlier this week that Werner was being eyed by Manchester United in their own search for a forward and the Red Devils had made an enquiry to Leipzig, but he will now travel to London to undergo a medical and finalise a move to Spurs.

Werner could coincidentally make his Tottenham debut against United when the two sides meet at Old Trafford in the Premier League next Sunday.

Leipzig recently confirmed Werner was in talks with an unspecified club over a move away and manager Marco Rose revealed the 27-year-old wanted to play more ahead of Germany's Euro 2024 campaign on home soil.

"He wants to go on loan, we wish him all the best. He needs to play as he wants to go to Euro 2024 and we keep our fingers crossed for him," Rose told Sky Sports Germany.

Werner is set to return to the Premier League following a mixed two-season spell with Chelsea. He scored 23 times in 89 appearances for the Blues and helped them win the Champions League, but was often criticised for his wastefulness in front of goal.

Tottenham first pursued a move for Werner back in 2015 when he was a teenager coming through at Stuttgart, but they couldn't agree a deal for him and signed Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen instead. Son is still at Spurs to this day and was named club captain for the 2023/24 season.
