Tommy Pham in Minor League deal with White Sox

In an unexpected revelation, MLB’s Juan Toribio has reported that the Chicago White Sox and Tommy Pham have reached a Minor League deal.

Reportedly in the $3 million range, the deal is also expected to include a further $1.5 million in performance bonuses.

The 36-year-old veteran outfielder was traded in the middle of last season by the Mets to the Diamondbacks, boosting their offense in their World Series run. In the post season, he hit .429 against the Dodgers in the NL Division Series, and .421 with three doubles and a home run against the Rangers in the World Series. Overall in 2023, he slashed .256/.328/.446 with 16 home runs and 22 steals in 129 Games.

Since making his MLB debut in 2014, Pham has had stints with the Cardinals, Rays, Padres, Reds, and Red Sox.

In a terrible 2-13 start to the 2024 season, the White Sox are dealing with injuries with Luis Robert Jr and Yoán Moncada both out of the lineup. A solid bat is desperately needed and Pham is expected to be called up as soon as he has recorded enough at-bats in the Minors due to missing Spring Training.

Reports are that Pham will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday and can request his unconditional release any time on/after April 25 if the White Sox don’t add him to their MLB roster within 24 hours of his request.
