TikTok deleted 11.7m Pakistani videos
TikTok – a popular online video sharing social networking service – has removed around 11.7 million videos uploaded from Pakistan for violating its community guidelines in the first quarter of 2023.
The online short video service has released its latest community guidelines enforcement report for Q1 2023 (January-March 2023) as part of its strategy to stop misinformation on the platform and create a safe environment for its users.
In its report, TikTok said it had removed over 91 million videos globally during this period.
They make up roughly around 0.6% of the total videos uploaded to the platform from across the world.
In comparison, the number of videos removed globally was more than 85.68 million in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Around 53.49 million videos were automatically removed worldwide while 6.20 million deleted after reviewing them.
In Pakistan, 11,707,020 videos were deleted for violating community guidelines during this period.
This figure shows a slight decrease in comparison with the 12.68 million videos removed in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Notably, during the first quarter of 2023 in Pakistan, 83% of the violating videos were successfully removed before reaching any viewers and almost 92.2% of such content was eliminated within a day.
in the fourth quarter of 2022, 89.7% of the violative videos from Pakistan were removed before anyone could view them and 95.5% of such content was removed within a day.
The proactive removal rate for the first quarter of 2023 stood at 98.8%.
According to the report, TikTok removed 16.94 million accounts suspected of belonging to users under the age of 13 worldwide, prioritising the safety of young people.
It added that around 51.29 million fake accounts were removed during Q1 of 2023 globally, highlighting TikTok’s efforts to “counter fraudulent activity”.
Aside from addressing community guideline violations, TikTok also actively targets spam accounts and related content, as per the report.
It added that the platform took preventive measures to automatically block the creation of spam accounts.
“TikTok’s community guidelines are designed to foster a safe, inclusive, and authentic experience for all users. These policies apply to everyone and all types of content, with TikTok striving to ensure consistency and equity in their enforcement,” the report read.
“TikTok utilises a combination of innovative Technology and human review to identify, assess, and take action against content that violates its community guidelines. The quarterly release of the Community Guidelines Enforcement Report provides insights into the volume and nature of removed content and accounts, ensuring full transparency,” it continued.
