The Masters 2024 Golf 2-ball Picks and Best Bets for the Final Round | Pickswise
It is often said that the Masters does not begin until the back 9 on Sunday. That’s not always true, of course, but based on the current leaderboard there is a good chance that the Green Jacket is still up for grabs with 9 holes remaining.
The leader is unsurprising. Scottie Scheffler, a heavy pre-tournament favorite, comes in at -7. However, by no means has the top-ranked American run away from the pack. Collin Morikawa is just 1 shot back, Max Homa is 2 off the lead, Ludvig Aberg is 3 behind and Bryson DeChambeau’s hole out on 18 in the final pairing on Saturday put him within striking distance at -3.
It should be an entertaining finale at Augusta National. Before it gets underway, let’s dive into some of the best 2-ball bets for the final round of the season’s first major.
Max Homa (+125) over Ludvig Aberg
Max Homa has that dog in him. Just ask Max Homa. Following the conclusion of round 3, the American quipped, ““I came here with the gratitude and appreciation that I get to [play The Masters]. I’m happy I get to do it tomorrow. I’m going to remind myself I’m a dog and I’m ready for this moment.” You have to believe him. Homa is up to #11 in the official world Golf rankings thanks to sustained success on tour. Admittedly, that is behind Aberg (#9) — but the 24-year-old Swede is making his first Masters appearance and even his first start at any major. Playing in the penultimate group on Sunday is going to be an entirely new experience. Give me the dog.
Nicolai Hojgaard (-115) over Cam Davis
On the back 9 on Saturday, Hojgaard saw his name at the top of the Masters leaderboard. That’s right; the 23-year-old was winning the Masters. Understandably, the lights appeared to be too bright for the Augusta rookie and he promptly made 5 consecutive bogeys. In other words, when Hojgaard has been playing from behind this week he has been awesome. That is obviously what the Dane will be doing on Sunday following his demise from -7 to -2. The result should be a bounce-back final round for Hojgaard, who is simply a superior – and more proven – player to Davis.
Matthew Fitzpatrick (-140) over Patrick Reed
Fitzpatrick and Reed head into the final round at +1, but it’s far to say that Fitzpatrick has played far superior Golf throughout the week. It was Reed who drew the favorable side of the Friday tee times, going off early before winds became basically gale force. The American took advantage to the tune of a 70. He shot 74 and 73 in the other 2 rounds. Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, was one of the last to go off on Friday and carded an impressive 73 in terrible conditions. That came in between rounds of 71 and 73. The Englishman has been the better player by far through 3 days – and really over the past several years. In what is basically a Ryder Cup situation, one of Europe’s best player should take care of Captain America.
