The Manor, an iconic mansion, enters the Los Angeles market with a staggering price tag of $165 million./NN
With this Los Angeles pad, there might not be any reason to leave, with everything you need in one sprawling property, from a hair salon to a nightclub to a bowling alley.
The iconic Manor, which was built in 1991 for TV mogul Aaron Spelling in the upscale Holmby Hills neighborhood, has hit the market once again and is listed via JamesEdition for $165 million.
Spelling and his wife Candy lived at the Manor – which was nicknamed ‘Candyland’ – for more than a decade, using it as a palatial place to entertain everyone from Prince Charles to Jackie Kennedy.
Candy, the mother of actress Tori Spelling, once told the Los Angeles Times that the manor was the “greatest Entertainment house ever” with a “kitchen where you can cook for two or 800.” To keep the house in tip-top condition, the Spellings employed a staff of around 30 people with more contracted in for parties.
Following the death of Aaron Spelling in 2006, Candy eventually decided to put the Manor on the market and downsize. She said at the time: “I’m not up-sizing from here. It’s a big house for one person.”
The French chateau-style property was purchased by Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One billionaire Bernie Ecclestone, for $85 million in 2011. The British heiress spent went on to spend millions more giving the interiors a more modern and polished look with the help of renowned Los Angeles designer Gavin Brodin. Some of her requests included the addition of a hair salon, massage parlor, aquarium, and nightclub.
After enjoying the Manor for several years, Ecclestone decided to put it on the market in 2019 and it was snapped up by an unknown Saudi Arabian buyer for $120 million making it the most expensive home ever sold in LA County at the time.
The Manor also ranks as one of the world’s largest single-family homes.
In total, there are 123 rooms in the 56,000-foot mega-mansion, including 14 bedrooms, 27 bathrooms, a formal dining room with a table for 22 guests, a wine cellar, a tasting room, a library, and a movie theatre.
On stepping into the house, you’re immediately hit by the grandeur, with the main foyer featuring a sweeping double staircase, polished marble flooring, and an oversized crystal chandelier. All of the rooms feature elegant furnishings blending classical and modern design and a neutral color palette runs through.
Moving outside, the property sits on a lush five-acre plot, with highlights including a swimming pool and tanning area, a tennis court, formal gardens, a koi pond, and multiple terraces.
There is also a circular motor court in front of the home, with a fountain and enough room to park 100 cars. Alternatively, there are around 16 carports located in a garage area.
Hilton & Hyland, the real estate firm managing the sale of the property, describes the limestone-clad Manor as ‘a showplace of the highest caliber, adding that it’s ‘undoubtedly one of the finest estates in the world’.
