The Edmonton Oilers are still in the running for the Stanley Cup
The Canadian team was close to being swept, but with two tied games, they were able to make a comeback in the fight for the title.
Once again, Conor McDavid was undoubtedly the best player on the ice rink, scoring two goals and providing two assists for a total of four stat points.
In Florida’s Sunrise, the Oilers dominated the Game from the beginning, taking the lead with a goal from Brown just five minutes into the Game. They went into the break with a narrow lead.
A real firework of goals was seen in the second 20 minutes. Hyman and McDavid hit the Panthers’ net quickly and led the Oilers to 3:0. Tkachuk managed to reduce it to 3:1, but veteran Perry again brought Edmonton plus three 4:1.
By the end of the second half, Rodríguez had reduced the score to 4:2. Ekman Larson’s goal in the fourth minute of the third period brought total drama to the match, bringing Florida to just one goal behind.
However, the home team could not equalize. At the finish, they attacked with all their might, leaving an empty goal, which McDavid took advantage of to make the final score 5:3 19 seconds before the end.
Did any team come back from 3:0 to win the Stanley Cup?
The Oilers are the fourth team in NHL History to trail 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final and rally to force a Game 6. The 2012 New Jersey Devils lost in six Games, the 1945 Detroit Red Wings lost in seven Games, and the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs won in seven Games—the only team in NHL (and US Sports) History to win the Cup after trailing 3-0.
The Edmonton Oilers will host the next game against the Panthers in the Stanley Cup final on Friday evening at 8 p.m. at Rogers Place Arena.
