The United States has confirmed its participation in the 2023 Pan American Games, which will be held in Santiago, Chile, from October 20 to November 5, 2023. The Games will feature nearly 7,000 athletes from North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean competing in 42 different sports. The United States has a rich history of participating in the Pan American Games, having competed in every edition since the inaugural event in 1951. For this year’s Games, the team will consist of 631 athletes, with 313 men and 318 women.

The United States is sending a solid team for the Games, with the athletes coming from various sports, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, and basketball. The team will be led by experienced coaches and officials who will provide support to ensure that the athletes are in top form.

Medals and quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics are at stake in the Games. In the previous edition of the Games in Lima 2019, the United States won 293 medals, including 122 gold, 87 silver, and 84 bronze. With the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games just around the corner, the U.S. is expected to continue winning and comPete for Olympic quotas in nine of the 38 Sports.

Throughout the history of the Games, the U.S. has only failed to win the gold twice, in 1951 and 1991. However, the country has since bounced back and holds the record for the most medals won in Games history, totaling 4,807. The U.S. will look to continue this impressive record in Santiago and make a strong showing across all sports. The athletes hope to bring home medals and secure their places in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

2023 Pan American Games: Team USA flag bearers

Jordan Chiles, who won a silver medal in the team event at the 2020 Summer Olympics representing the United States, has been chosen as one of the two flagbearers at the Pan-American Games Opening Ceremony. She was also a part of the gold-winning team at the 2022 World Championships and individually won silver medals in vault and floor events. Chiles has been a United States women’s national gymnastics team member since 2013.

She will be joined by Vincent Hancock, an Olympian and shooter from Florida, as the second flagbearer. He has won gold medals in men’s skeet at three consecutive Summer Olympics - in Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Tokyo 2020. Vincent is the first skeet shooter to repeat as an Olympic champion and set an Olympic record in Beijing.
