Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Planning to Expand Family by Rescuing Cat Together: ‘They Love the Idea’

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are open with pals about expanding their family – with a new fur baby! The superstar’s beloved cats have given her man their unconditional blessing and it’s made the couple want to add another kitten to the mix, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.

“It took a while but the cats love Travis now and he loves them,” the source says. “He’s become a very proud cat dad and he and Taylor are now saying they want to get a new kitten to raise together.”

The A-listers “want to adopt a rescue kitten,” according to the insider. “They love the idea of saving a cat’s life and know there are so many in need. They get a lot of pleasure doting on the cats together. They love snuggling up with them and Travis has set up all sorts of scratching posts in the house for them. He’s always buying them new toys and is even planning to build them a cat patio so they can have outdoor time without having to risk them getting lost or worse.”

Taylor, 35, adopted her first cat, Meredith Grey – named after Ellen Pompeo’s character from Grey’s Anatomy – in 2011. The pop star has spoken about Meredith’s reclusive behavior over the years and assured fans in 2021 that the Scottish Fold was doing fine amid concern regarding her whereabouts. “The truth is, Meredith just hates having her picture taken,” she explained.

In 2014, Taylor added another furry friend to the mix when she adopted a second Scottish Fold who she named Olivia Benson after Mariska Hargitay’s Law & Order: SVU character. Olivia has made more public appearances than her cat sister and even popped up on Taylor’s Instagram earlier this month. After a two-month hiatus from the Eras tour, Taylor returned to the stage in Miami on October 18 and posted a video of herself holding Olivia in the empty stadium before the show. “Back in the office…” she captioned the clip.

The adoption of Taylor’s third cat, Benjamin Button, in 2019 was actually unplanned. Taylor met the Ragdoll kitten on the set of her “ME!” music video and fell in love with him. She wound up taking him home after the shoot. “He was just a cute kitten who didn’t have a home,” Taylor explained. “[The handler] handed me this tiny cat and he just starts purring and … he looks at me like, ‘You’re my mom, and we’re going to live together.’ I fell in love.”

Benjamin appeared on the cover of Time magazine with Taylor in December 2023. She used one of the photos to post about this year’s presidential election and proudly referred to herself as a “childless cat lady” in the caption.

Taylor and Travis, 35, started dating in August 2023 and have integrated themselves into each other’s lives ever since. “[Travis’] friends tease him about being so into the cats, but he doesn’t care,” the insider concludes. “Taylor treats them like her kids and now he’s the same way. They’re both very excited about adding another one to the family.”
