The Kansas City Chiefs will start the new NFL season as the big favourites to win a third consecutive Super Bowl, an achievement that would strengthen their position in the pantheon of all-time greats. But the Chiefs will not have it all their own way in 2024. The Houston Texans are on the rise and are building a strong team with veteran experience to compliment young star CJ Stroud.

The latest acquisition for an ambitious Texans front office is Stefon Diggs, the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver. In return the Bills will receive a second-round pick for 2025, via the Minnesota Vikings.

Diggs is ranked as one of the best receivers in the league and, after joining the Bills, broke the NFL record as the fastest to reach 100 catches with a new team. He made his professional debut with the Minnesota Vikings (2015-2019) before signing with the Bills ahead of the 2020 season. That year was a successful one for Diggs, finishing as the league leader for receptions and receiving yards.

However he struggled for form in 2023 and the 30-year-old joins the Texans off the back of an underwhelming campaign. He finished with 1,183 yards and just 8 touchdown receptions, a considerable drop from his previous years’ output.

Houston Texans 2024 roster additions

The incredible form of CJ Stroud brought fresh hope for the Texans in 2023, giving supporters confidence that they may finally be able to made an impact in the playoffs. They were eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional playoffs but the team have worked swiftly to add reinforcements for Stroud.

Last month the Texans brought in running back Joe Mixton from the CIncinnati Bengals, offering him a three-year $27 million extension. Danielle Hunter was added to bolster the defensive options. The four-time Pro-Bowl pass-rusher agreed a two-year deal with $48 million in guaranteed compensation. Despite missing out on a deal for Keenan Allen the Texans have made major strides in the off-season.

The opposite is true for the Buffalo Bills, who have lost fundamental pieces during free agency. Veteran stars Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer have both departed, the latter signing for the Miami Dolphins. Additionally another Bills receiver, Gabriel Davis, moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 31-year-old defensive end Leonard Floyd has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
