The Hoops will be hoping to get off to the perfect start in the comPetition’s brand-new league phase.

Given they Travel to Dortmund and Bergamo on matchdays two and three, the Hoops must secure three points against Bratislava next week.

The Slovakian champions are not used to playing in European Football’s elite club comPetition, but Celtic’s recent record in it is nothing to shout about.

Bratislava should be treated with utmost respect next Wednesday, but their number two has recently praised the Scottish Premiership champions ahead of the match.

Manager Vladimir Weiss wasn’t in the dugout for his side’s 5-0 win over AC Nitra in the cup yesterday, so his assistant Boris Kitka was on press duties.

Although Kitka spearheaded an impressive victory, he stressed his team’s busy timetable post-match and praised Celtic at the same time.

“We have an extremely challenging schedule,” he said (Glasgow Times).

“We are in the Champions League against some of the world’s best clubs and we start against Celtic.

“It is very important we treat our league matches with the same intensity as the Champions League matches.

“I think it is important to be realistic about this. For many of us, it will be our first time at such a high level.”

Although Bratislava aren’t regulars in the Champions League, Celtic fans shouldn’t take victory for granted next Wednesday.

We have seen several ‘smaller’ European sides come to Parkhead in the past and shock the Bhoys with formidable performances.

Celtic should have enough to get past the Slovakians next week, but best remain on their guard.
