Sean Kingston speaks out after police raided his Florida home and arrested his mother for fraud
Sean Kingston spoke out after police raided his South Florida home and arrested his mother in connection to an investigation regarding theft and fraud charges.
“People love negative energy!” the “Beautiful Girls” singer, 34, wrote on his Instagram Story Thursday. “I am good and so is my mother! … my lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office told Page Six that an undisclosed investigation began earlier in the day in Dania Beach, Fla., and led to Kingston’s residence.
Several detectives, along with members of the police SWAT team, swarmed the Jamaican musician’s home, while more than a dozen deputies were seen near a command center in the driveway.
Page Six learned that police issued search and arrest warrants before taking Kingston’s 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, into custody.
She arrested on “numerous fraud and theft charges.”
The “Take You There” singer did not appear to be home at the time, and law enforcement have not confirmed whether one of the arrest warrants was for him.
The police raid came after Kingston was sued by Ver Ver Entertainment in February for failing to pay for the sale and installation of a 232-inch TV, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
Dennis Card, the company’s attorney, told People Thursday, “We’ve been waiting on this raid for more than two months now.”
Card also accused Kingston — born Kisean Paul Anderson — of orchestrating a scheme to obtain expensive goods without paying.
“He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he’s a showman,” the attorney alleged to NBC 6 South Florida.
“My client has a $150,000 television sound system that’s in there, there’s also about $1 million worth of watches that are in there, there’s an $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is an organized, systematic fraud.”
In 2016, Kingston was sued for over $300,000 for purchasing jewelry he could not afford.
