Rodgers Hails Trusty’s “Immense” Display After Silencing Critics Against Atalanta
Brendan Rodgers has praised Auston Trusty for his impressive performance in Celtic’s recent goalless draw against Atalanta in the Champions League, highlighting the defender’s resilience and defensive skills.
Trusty’s display in Italy showed his speed, strength, and ability to perform in crucial moments—qualities that Rodgers said were key reasons behind bringing him to Celtic.
He’s been criticised a lot by the Celtic fans after his £6 million summer move to Glasgow, but his performance on Wednesday had critics silenced and saw him praised by every Celtic fan.
Brendan Rodgers was impressed by the defender’s performance and said: [Celtic TV]
“I thought Auston was immense in Wednesday’s Game. Liam Scales too. For Auston, I have a big admiration, especially since he’s come in. He’s a player that’s been playing on the wrong side virtually all his time.
“But he’s just got on with it and coped with it. But then you see one of the big reasons why we did bring him in. His ability to leap and defend in the box. He’s really powerful with his head. But also his speed. There were a couple of recovery runs in behind.
“He’s super quick. He got there on a couple of occasions. So I was so pleased for him. Because sometimes you need a big performance like that at the big clubs to really show your value.”
He is typically a left-sided player, but Liam Scales takes up that side.
With CCV’s injury, it’s forced Trusty to play on the opposite side alongside Scales in an unnatural position.
Maybe, things are starting to click for the summer signing, and he’s getting used to playing on the right.
Nevertheless, it was a great performance that he put in on Wednesday.
But the full team put in a great performance, with every single player who stepped onto the pitch contributing.
The point has flipped the atmosphere surrounding the club in the Champions League, and now a place in the knockout stage feels in reach for the Hoops.
