Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed he will return to the cockpit of an F1 car with a Pirelli tyre test at Silverstone in July.

A disappointing 2022 season saw Ricciardo lose his drive with McLaren, and with no other suitable race seats available for 2023, he instead took a reserve driver role at Red Bull.

Owing to F1's restrictions on in-season testing, much of Ricciardo's work has been restricted to the Red Bull simulator, but the Australian told ESPN he would get behind the wheel of the RB19 at Silverstone in July.

"I've been in the simulator, but I will drive the RB19 in July after the Silverstone race – I'm getting a Pirelli test," said Ricciardo.

"Then maybe I'll get another one after Monza as well in September. A couple of months away [and] I'll get to feel what it's like."

Ricciardo has previously made known his intention to return to an F1 race seat in 2024, and said he was eager to make the most of a rare outing behind the wheel to show his speed.

"I'm certainly excited to drive a fast car, but also a car that maybe still feels familiar for me – it does a little bit in the sim," Ricciardo added.

"But I'm just excited to drive again and to just try to remind a team obviously I once had a lot of success with that I can still turn a fast lap."
