Veteran point guard Rajon Rondo has officially announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons. The 38-year-old has been pretty much done since he went unsigned in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 season, but on Monday night, he made it clear that we’ve seen the last of him in the league.

On the All the Smoke podcast, he was asked about his future in the league, and Rondo said he was burnt out and is “absolutely” done. “I’d rather spend time with my kids,” said Rondo.

Rondo’s championships and stats in the NBA

Although these last few seasons were uneventful, Rondo was once one of the top point guards in the league. During his nine-year stint with the Boston Celtics, he was a four-time All-Star, four-time NBA All-Defensive selection, two-time assists champion, and one-time steals champion. Rondo also helped take the Celtics to the NBA championship and win it over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008. He also helped take them to the final in 2010.

After his time with the Celtics, Rondo bounced around from team to team, spending some time with the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

When Rondo played for the Lakers in 2019, he experienced another great bout of success, helping take them to an NBA championship as well, beating the Miami Heat.

In his NBA career, Rondo appeared in 957 total regular-season games, averaging 9.8 points, 7.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals, and is 15th in all-time assists with 7,584.
