Celtic came away deserved 4-3 victors in a thrilling friendly with English champions Manchester City in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Game held several positives for the Hoops who carved their opponents open on numerous occasions.

Manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased with his side post-match, and heaped praise on star man Nicolas Kuhn, who scored two and assisted another.

During the Game, though, he didn’t look pleased with one of his substitutes.

Brought on at half-time, Mikey Johnston replaced the mercurial Daizen Maeda.

Johnston’s appearance in Celtic’s previous friendly with DC United had it all; he scored yet missed a penalty and blazed a cross into row Z.

This time around, he was similarly inconsistent. He missed a few clear-cut opportunities and when he tried a fancy flick as the ball came up the line to him, Rodgers was visibly incensed on the touchline.

Former Celtic midfielder turned pundit Peter Grant noticed this.

“Brendan doesn’t look too happy with Mikey Johnston after that flick”, he said (Celtic TV via Football Scotland).

“You can see why after you have just conceded.”

Off the back of a productive loan spell at West Brom, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for Johnston.

He hasn’t shown many encouraging signs in pre-season and with vast comPetition in the wide areas at Celtic, one has doubts over whether the Ireland international has a long-term future at the club.
