Celtic picked up three pivotal points in the title race on Sunday as they defeated a resolute Dundee side by two goals to one.

Strikes in each half from James Forrest sealed a victory that should have been more comfortable than what it was.

The Hoops were 2-0 up and cruising going into the closing stages but the hosts got one back through Antonio Portales.

He had a few bites at the cherry before finally getting a respectable shot away. The Mexican’s strike deflected off Adam Idah who had almost a fresh air swipe at the ball.

Pundit Pat Bonner couldn’t believe the way the striker was positioned when back defending for the goal.

He said: [BBC Scottish Football Podcast via RecordSport] “I can’t believe that Adam Idah has gone into the near post area when he’s six foot whatever and he’s got to be picking up that six-yard box where the ball was landing in and he can deal with it.

“He was the last man coming out. He’s almost out of the Game for those corners.”

Although Bonner may have a point in terms of Idah’s positioning, on Sunday, the corner that led to Dundee’s goal didn’t directly enter the six-yard box.

The Irishman was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time because he was perhaps too slow to get out. His attempt at a clearance was poor, but also arguably a stroke of bad luck.

Idah’s performances of late have not captured the imagination but on the whole, since joining Celtic, some of his goals have been critical.

He has contributed massively to the Bhoys’ current league predicament and could still have a part to play between now and the end of the season.
