Houston Texans Recap

The Houston Texans come into this one after falling short in the hall of fame Game by a final score of 21-17 at the hands of the Chicago Bears in a weather-shortened affair. Davis Mills threw for 102 yards and a touchdown on 10 of 13 passing while Case Keenum had 78 passing yards on 7 of 9 passing with a touchdown as well. J.J. Taylor led the Texans on the ground with 16 rushing yards while Xavier Hutchinson had a team-high 5 receptions for 56 yards. Ben Skowronek had 3 grabs for 28 yards while Teagan Quitoriano and Cam Akers each had a touchdown grab as well in the losing effort. On defense, Calen Bullock led the Texans with 5 total tackles in the defeat.

Pittsburgh Steelers Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be out to build on another solid campaign after finishing the 2023 season with a record of 10-7, keeping the streak of winning seasons under Mike Tomlin alive. The Steelers made it back to the postseason after missing in 2022, but fell short in the wild card round to the Buffalo Bills by a final score of 31-17. The Steelers decided to try to revamp the offense, shipping out Kenny Pickett and completely overhauling the QB room, bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in the offseason to give the Steelers a new voice under center. Najee Harris and Jaylen warren are the familiar faces in the Steeler backfield while George Pickens will hope to take another step forward as the lead man in the Steelers’ receiving corps. On defense, T.J. Watt remains the anchor up front and Steeler fans will be hoping for a clean bill of Health as Watt has been instrumental for the Steelers winning Games over the course of his career. Alex Highsmith is also back hoping to add to the 21.5 sacks he’s accrued over the last two seasons. Patrick Queen is the new acquisition in the linebackers room for the Steelers, while Cameron Heyward is back for a 14th season as the elder statesman in the Steelers’ defense. Joey Porter Jr. is also back as one of the headliners of the Steeler secondary group.

Texans vs. Steelers Prediction

I’m on the Steelers here. I think I have higher hopes for the Texans when we’re in the regular season, but for right now, I’m sticking with my mantra for betting preseason Football and that’s backing the team with greater depth. The Steelers have more high-end backup talent in my opinion and I also think there’s a lot more in terms of position battles brewing in Pittsburgh while the Texans have their top-end settled. Also Mike Tomlin is a coach I try to not go against because his intensity level is cranked up from the word go, preseason or not. Give me the Steelers.
