Patrick Mahomes sends message after Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting

One person is dead and at least 14 more are thought to have been injured after a shooting at a Kansas City parade held to celebrate the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory last Sunday. Victims have been taken to the city’s Truman Medical Center following the shooting.

The parade drew fans from around the city, eager to show their support for a team that made History by going back-to-back in the Super Bowl. The team’s dramatic overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers affirmed their status as a dynasty and saw quarterback Patrick Mahomes win his third Super Bowl MVP award.

Mahomes is adored in Kansas City and was at the centre of the celebrations on Wednesday. After the day turned sour, he sent a message to those affected by the shocking incident.

“Shooting people is never the answer,” Mahomes’ wife Brittany wrote on Instagram. “Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough.”

Are the Chiefs players safe?

Players, coaches and other staff of the Kansas City Chiefs were all involved in the parade, which took the team through the heart of the city.

There was understandable concern that the players may have been targeted in the attack, but local officials have confirmed that all members of team, including coaches and staff, are safe. The team had already left the stage at the time of the shooting and were not in danger.

Shortly after the event Mayor Quinton Lucas told reporters that all members were safe and accounted for. Police Chief Stacey Graves added that more than 800 law enforcement officers had been in attendance at the event to aid the security effort.
