The San Diego Padres will head out to Denver to start a divisional series with the Colorado Rockies this Friday from Coors Field.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 29-33 after splitting two with Seattle. The Padres went off for ten runs on Wednesday after dropping the first Game to the Mariners, and they’ll look to climb closer to .500 this weekend. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per Game, while batting .220, with a .314 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.95 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Juan Soto went off in the win over Seattle, plating five runs to take the team-lead in RBI with 31. Fernando Tatis produced runs in both Games against the Mariners to bring his splits to .257/11/29.

Yu Darvish (4-4, 4.10 ERA, 68 K) will get the ball for San Diego. The 5x All-Star had his best outing of the season in a revenge spot against the Cubs, striking out nine over seven shutout innings to earn his fourth win of the season. Darvish was rough up in the Bronx in his last road spot against the Yanks, so it will be interesting to see how he fares in his first trip to Coors this season. Darvish has also dealt with inconsistency, and after trading each of his last four starts, he’ll look to buck that trend this Friday.

Rockies Betting Preview

Colorado moved to 26-38 after being swept by San Francisco. The Rockies couldn’t match the Giants’ energy this week, and they’ll look to avoid skidding further in the division this weekend.  The Colorado offense is scoring 4.5 runs per Game, while batting .256, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.70 ERA, with a 1.43 WHIP. Randal Grichuk continues to be effective at the plate, and after collecting a hit in eight of the last ten Games, he leads the Rockies in batting at .325. Charlie Blackmon has recorded a hit in nine of the last ten Games, and he leads the team in runs scored (34), with 26 RBI. Ryan McMahon has produced a run in four of the last six Games, and he’s first on the team in HR (9) and RBI (36).

Austin Gomber (4-4, 6.99 ERA, 38 Ks) will get the call for Colorado. The fifth-year lefty has naturally endured his struggles at Coors this season, but he found himself in trouble in Kansas City last week. Gomber only lasted 2.2 innings, allowing six hits before getting bailed out by the bullpen, and the outing sadly summed up his season. Gomber’s been vulnerable and submissive, and San Diego should find a way to capitalize in the high altitude.

San Diego vs Colorado Trends

San Diego is 34-22 against the spread this season, with a 29-24-3 O/U record. Colorado is 28-28 ATS this year, with a 26-28-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

There’s a major pitching advantage on San Diego’s side, and they should have ample opportunity at the plate as well. Austin Gomber gives up runs, and the Pads have one of the best lineups in baseball. Another solid outing from Yu Darvish may just do the trick here, so back San Diego for this divisional battle, and give the Over a look with Colorado likely to show some fight after being swept at home by San Francisco.
