Oilers vs Predators Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Edmonton Oilers were slow out of the gate but have rebounded nicely. They own a 6-3-1 record over the last 10 games and have lit it up since Connor McDavid returned to the lineup, scoring 13 times in just three games.

My Predators vs. Oilers predictions see Edmonton’s offense remaining hot on home soil, with fellow superstar center Leon Draisaitl leading the charge.

Let’s take a closer look at my NHL picks for Thursday, November 14.

My Oilers analysis

Did the Nashville Predators do something to Leon Draisaitl in another life? They must have because it’s the only explanation for the complete disregard he has for that franchise.

For whatever reason, the Edmonton Oilers center seemingly explodes every time he faces Nashville. However extreme of a picture I’m painting, I promise it is even more absurd.

Draisaitl has faced the Predators 16 times since October of 2018, piling up 64 shots and 41 points in that span. Draisaitl has cleared 2.5 shots in 12 of the 16 head-to-head meetings, good for a 75% success rate.

Considering he scored 25 times (1.56 per Game) in that span and lights up Juuse Saros like a Christmas tree, it makes sense that he’s a little more trigger-happy.

Don’t worry — there’s more to the handicap than a strong player vs. team history.

The Predators are laboring defensively, ranking 26th in 5v5 shot suppression over the last 10 Games. Although their penalty-killing metrics are solid in that span, they are spending much time undermanned. That will benefit Draisaitl as well.

A lot of the volume Nashville’s giving up is from opposing centers. They’ve allowed 11.70 shots per game to the position over the last 10 games, which is the sixth-highest mark in the NHL.

The Connor McDavid line should see a lot of the Filip Forsberg line, with Draisaitl spending a lot of his time going up against Nashville’s second and third groupings. Those two lines have both given up a lot of shots in the couple of games they’ve played since being assembled.

As a cherry on top, both teams rank in the top half of the league in even-strength pace over the past 10 Games (Nashville 15th, Edmonton 8th). This should be a high-event affair that creates a great environment for offense.

Draisaitl’s track record of scoring goals against the Predators is absurd. He has found twine 25 times over the last 16 head-to-head matchups and found the back of the net at least once on 12 different occasions.

Given we’re backing the German phenom to record a few shots, it’s not exactly a stretch to think one of them will end up in the back of the net. The Predators have an underwhelming .886 team save percentage, after all.

Evan Bouchard is a nice correlation play. More than 46% of his 5v5 minutes have coincided with Draisaitl, meaning they share the ice nearly half of his shifts at full strength. They also play together on the top power-play unit, pushing that number well over 50% across all situations.

Bouchard is an elite offensive defenseman who can help get the most out of Draisaitl. He’s come along for the ride when Leon’s preying on the Predators, hitting the scoresheet in eight of the last 11 matchups vs. Nashville.
