The Houston Astros and the New York Mets meet Sunday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s a NY Mets vs Houston Astros Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Houston Astros will send out Framber Valdez for the start here and Valdez is 6-5 with a 3.68 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. In his career, Valdez is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the Mets. Tylor Megill will get the start for the Mets and is 2-4 with a 4.81 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. This will be Megill’s second career start against the Astros.

Houston Astros Recap

The Houston Astros will try to bounce back after starting the series with a 7-2 loss in Friday’s series opener. The loss snapped Houston’s seven-Game win streak and puts their series win streak in jeopardy, which includes series wins over the Rockies, Orioles and White Sox over the last week and a half.

Astros Still Rolling Offensively Despite Loss, Trying To Climb Back Into AL West Race

Jose Altuve has 101 hits and a .304 batting average with 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and 17 doubles while Kyle Tucker has a team-high 19 homers with 11 doubles and 40 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez also has 16 homers with 41 RBIs and 19 doubles while Altuve has the Astros’ team lead with 13 stolen bases so far this season. Jeremy Pena also has 85 hits and a .271 batting average as well as 10 stolen bases of his own this season.

Why the Houston Astros will win

  • The Astros have won each of their last seven games after playing the previous day.
  • The Mets have lost each of their last 11 Saturday games as home underdogs against American League opponents.
  • The Mets have failed to cover the run line in each of their last nine day games against AL West opponents following a win.
  • The Astros have covered the run line in each of their last seven games after playing the previous day.

New York Mets Recap

The New York Mets come into this one looking to pick up another series win after opening this set with a win, giving themselves a shot to build on their series win streak after knocking off the Yankees, Cubs, Rangers and Padres over the last two weeks.

Mets Crushing It At The Plate

Starling Marte has 68 hits and a .278 batting average while Pete Alonso has a team-high 17 home runs and 44 RBIs with 19 doubles as well. Francisco Lindor has 24 doubles of his own with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs along with 14 stolen bases while Marte also has 12 stolen bases. Brandon Nimmo has 46 RBIs and 80 strikeouts as well this season.

Why the New York Mets will win

  • The Mets have won each of their last seven games as underdogs.
  • The Astros have lost six of their last seven games against NL East opponents.
  • The Mets have covered the run line in each of their last eight games as home underdogs against American League opponents.
  • The Astros have failed to cover the run line in four of their last five road games against National League opponents that held a winning record.

NY Mets vs Houston Astros Prediction

I’m on the over here. The Mets have gone from one of the worst teams in baseball against left-handed pitching through the first month and a half of the season, to a team that leads baseball in a lot of stats against lefties in the last month or so, which gives me some hope they can have success against Valdez, who hasn’t looked very ace-like this season. On the other side, I’m not a Tylor Megill fan, and the Astros have been pummelling righties in recent weeks during their climb back to .500. I’ll back the over in this one.
