Denver Nuggets ML over Minnesota Timberwolves (+108)

After the initial two defeats in this series, many people were quick to write off Nikola Jokic and the defending champions. And they couldn’t have been any more wrong. The Joker put together another masterpiece in Game 5, leading the Nuggets to their 3rd consecutive win in the series and now they have the Timberwolves on the brink of elimination. Jokic finished with 40 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds on 15-for-22 shooting, hitting amazing shot after amazing shot, right in the face of the DPOY Rudy Gobert. This series has completely flipped and all the momentum is on the Nuggets side, as they look to close things out Thursday night.

People seem to forget that Anthony Edwards is still only 22 years old and that maybe we’re putting a bit too much pressure on him to eliminate the best team in basketball at such a young age. Edwards finished with a modest 18 points on Tuesday, his lowest total of the series. Mike Conley didn’t play due to an injury, without him these Timberwolves look nowhere near the team they were in the opening two Games of this series. Even without a consistent three-ball in Game 5, the Nuggets still dominated from start to finish. It was their 3rd straight Game of shooting over 50% from the field, when they’re clicking like this it’s hard to beat them. I have Denver finishing the job on Thursday night.

Michael Porter Jr. 2+ made threes (-300)

MPJ ha slightly cooled off over the past two Games in this series, but elimination Games are all about role players. Now, I wouldn’t exactly call the 3rd scoring option on the Nuggets a role player, but you get what I’m saying. Porter Jr. has had a pair of really good performances in this series in Games 1 and 3, scoring 20 and 21 points. He’s averaging 2.2 made threes in 5 Games played so far on a respectable 39.3% efficiency. Over the years he’s participated in 10 closeout Games in his career averaging 15.5 points per Game, plus he has made at least two threes a total of 6 times on 35% shooting from downtown. So far this postseason he’s just under 45% efficiency from the perimeter, so I’m expecting at least two threes from him on Thursday night.

Naz Reid over 9.5 points (-122)

Relying on a 22-year old Anthony Edwards can win you a few games, even a series, but in the long run the Timberwolves need to get Ant Man some help on offense. With Karl-Anthony Towns being so inconsistent, it’s time for the 6th Man of the Year to step up with the team’s season on the line. So far this postseason Reid is averaging 10.3 points per game off the bench, he’s also cleared this line in 3 of the 5 games played so far. I have high expectations from him in Game 6, especially if Mike Conley isn’t able to play. Reid is more than capable of creating his own shot, plus he can hit the three-ball as well (he’s at 40% efficiency this series). During the regular season he averaged 12 points per game in 3 meetings with the Nuggets, he finished in double-figures 6 times in the last 9 games against them.
