This week’s hump day brings a jam packed schedule in the MLB. Almost every Game from 1:10PM ET through midnight ET has potential playoff implications. This time of year typically brings a ton of movement in the standings and this September has certainly been no exception. There is no reason to think that will change now. This slate is a great bridge to Thursday.

Cubs win (-170)

To put it very plain, the Cubs are a very good team and the Rockies are a very bad team. Since the All Star break, the Cubs have been one of the best teams in baseball which has them in a playoff spot and still sniffing the top of the NL Central. The Rockies have been abysmal all season long and not much has changed lately. They are 1-5 in their last 6 Games and 2-7 in their last 9 at home.

The Cubs enter Wednesday 2-4 in their last 6 games. They really need wins to keep pace with such a tight NL wild card race. After today’s game, they go to Arizona who just took 2 out of 4 at Wrigley, then later this month they end the season with 6 games against the Braves and Brewers. The Cubs will come out with some jam to collect a much-needed win against a bad team before a tough stretch.

Orioles -1.5 (+114)

This is another game that is just plain lopsided. The Orioles have a great chance to finish as the top team in the American League while the Cardinals will likely finish bottom 2-3 in the National League. Baltimore is 8-2 in their last 10 games and 7-3 in their last 10 played at home. Their lead in the AL East is 3 games which not safe by any means with 3 weeks of baseball left to play. They will come out with urgency to collect a win and keep pace.

Starting for the Cardinals on Wednesday is Drew Rom who presents the opportunity for the Orioles to produce against a vulnerable pitcher. Rom is a youngster who has been touched up in his short stint in the big leagues. In 4 outings, he has allowed 17 earned runs in 17.1 innings pitched for a 7.79 ERA. Baltimore will not be shy about their offensive approach and should be able to win big.

Astros -1.5 and game total over 9.5 (+235)

In the last few days, the Astros have jumped into first place in the AL West which might be the most intriguing division race. Given how that AL West race has gone, it is difficult to see the Astros hanging on longer than a few days before potentially claiming it back. They will try, though. Houston gets a soft matchup against Oakland as the Astro go for a sweep. Houston won the first two Games of this series by a combined score of 10-2 and should be able to run up the score again.

The over is 6-2 in the Astros’ last 8 games which reinforces their overs trends for the season. The over is 77-67-2 in Astros games this season including 41-32-1 at home. That compliments Oakland’s over under record of 75-63-7 this year including 40-29-5 on the road. The Astros have scored 12+ runs in 4 out of their last 8 games. Obviously that is not sustainable, but they are producing in bunches right now and face a team prone to allowing runs. The over looks good as well in this one.
