With plenty of MLB Games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will take only about 15 minutes. I’m on a 28-10 run with my YRFI/NRFI plays, so let’s keep this momentum going! But before we dive in, don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for each of today’s matchups.

Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays: NRFI (-110)

For my first pick on Tuesday’s slate, I’ll be targeting the NRFI in this AL East clash between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. One of the more underrated pitchers in baseball this season has been Zach Eflin, as the right-hander has consistently delivered for the Rays throughout the campaign. Eflin’s stellar 3.04 xERA and elite walk percentage and chase rate (both in the top 10 percentile among all pitchers per Baseball Savant) make him a nightmare for opposing hitters to face, and I’m expecting a quick start to this outing against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Eflin will be opposed by Kutter Crawford, who has similarly strong advanced metrics, including an xERA of 3.53. The right-hander is also coming off his worst start of the season against the Astros, so I believe we’re getting a bit of value on this number as a result. Let’s back a routine first inning at the Trop.

Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees: NRFI (-120)

Last week, I targeted the NRFI in this exact matchup and I’ll be going back to the well with this NRFI selection in New York. The Yankees offense has been mired in mediocrity all season long, and while New York should have Aaron Judge in the lineup, that shouldn’t faze Alex Faedo, who has been rock solid since coming out of the All-Star break. The Tigers starter has lowered his ERA over 2 full points since July 23, allowing a total of 8 earned runs in 26 innings pitched. That will certainly play against this Yankees lineup.

On the other side, Gerrit Cole has had a terrific season for New York and the veteran right-hander should view this matchup as another chance to build on a strong outing against the Tigers on August 30. Detroit is in the home stretch of another rebuilding season, and while there are glimmers of optimism for the Tigers’ future, this offense is simply one of the worst in the league (28th in OBP, 29th in OPS). Look for a quick opening frame in what should be a game dictated by the starting pitchers out of the gate.
