New York Yankees vs Houston Astros: YRFI (-125)

The Yankees took yesterday’s Game by a score of 6-2 with some help from Jasson “The Martian” Dominguez who made his long-awaited debut and made quite the splash after he slugged an opposite field home run off future Hall of Famer, Justin Verlander. Not only did Dominguez go deep, but Aaron Judge hit his 250th career home run and Giancarlo Stanton added with a homer of his own. I believe that production carries over into tonight when the Yanks take on Hunter Brown of the Astros. Through 25 appearances and 24 starts, Brown owns a 4.47 ERA and 1.33 WHIP along with a 6.23 ERA across 5 starts in August.

If the Yankees are unable to score, I have faith in the Astros to make noise in the bottom half of the inning. They’ll be going up against right-hander Luis Severino, who’s having a season to forget. Through 17 appearances and 16 starts, Severino has registered a 6.64 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. Severino tossed shutouts in back-to-back starts and still owns a 4.56 ERA across 5 starts in the month of August. That’s how bad it’s been. One of those unfortunate outings came against the Astros, where Severino surrendered 5 earned runs on 5 hits, 2 home runs, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsmen over 4.0 innings. I think both of these lineups have the upper hand on the starting pitching tonight and I’ll be making a play on the first-inning over.

San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres: NRFI (-115)

For my second pick, we head to the West Coast in a bout between the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. The Padres evened up the series last night after Fernando Tatis Jr. and Juan Soto slugged back-to-back home runs. Even with the all the big names in San Diego, they’re still 10 games under .500 and looking to next season. One thing that has been great is the Padres’ starting pitching, particularly left-hander Blake Snell. Snell carried a 4.50 ERA into June but has since pitched out of his mind. Over 11 starts between June 5 and July 30, Snell posted a 0.71 ERA and is now the National League Cy Young frontrunner on DraftKings Sportsbook. That being said, I like Snell to toss a scoreless first.

The Giants counter with a 22-year-old young gun left-hander in Kyle Harrison. It’ll only be the third MLB start for Harrison, but he’s handled himself quite well. Harrison was welcomed to the big leagues with a 2-run home run off the bat of Bryce Harper in the first inning on August 22, but he hasn’t allowed a single run since. Harrison has gone scoreless in his last 8.2 innings and tossed a 6.1 inning shutout on 3 hits and 2 walks against the Cincinnati Reds in his last outing. The Padres’ lineup has been underwhelming all season long and they’ve been a huge disappointment for a team that had World Series aspirations. They’re middle of the pack in runs scored and 22nd in batting average with a team the features multiple perennial All-Stars. With the inconsistency, I have to back a scoreless first inning in San Diego.
