Arizona Diamondbacks vs Atlanta Braves Over 9 (-105)

Brandon Pfaadt was outstanding during the Diamondbacks’ playoff run in 2023, correcting his early season woes and delivering a very promising rookie campaign. However, it’s hard to have much confidence in any pitcher when he has to face Atlanta. The Braves’ bats woke up late in the series opener on Friday night, bashing their way to a 6-5 victory in 10 innings. Their offense was historic last season and more of the same can be expected this time around. Atlanta is countering with Max Fried, who struggled against Philadelphia in his 2024 debut. Arizona’s lineup was already potent last year and now it is even better. Even though this is a nice pitching matchup, expect plenty of runs.

San Francisco Giants ML over San Diego Padres (-115)

Starting Michael King came over from New York in San Diego’s deal involving Juan Soto. King has suffered numerous injuries in the past, including a fractured elbow — which is never good to hear for a pitcher. The 28-year-old’s 2024 debut came in relief during the Korea series against the Dodgers and he struggled, allowing 7 base runners, a homer and 3 runs. King’s first start of the season was against the Giants; he allowed 7 walks and saw a decrease in his fastball velocity. He now runs into the Giants again, and facing the same lineup twice in a row is never an easy task — especially when that team saw the ball out of your hand well the first time. The Giants have added depth to their lineup and should be in line for another productive day at the office.

Boston Red Sox -1.5 over Los Angeles Angels (+168)

Garrett Whitlock has been used by the Red Sox as both a reliever and starter throughout the past several seasons, but regardless of what role he has played the right-hander has showcased elite coMMAnd of the strike zone. Typically when pitchers with good stuff bounce back and forth between roles, it is due to a lack of control or lack of depth in their pitching arsenal. Neither is an issue for Whitlock, as the 6’5” pitcher utilizes a 5-pitch mix and has a career-long BB/9 of only 1.77. Now that the Angels are without Shohei Ohtani and this isn’t a prime Mike Trout, their lineup is nothing special. When you throw strikes against them, good things usually happen. The Sox are off to a 6-2 start and have won 5 in a row. During this 5-Game winning streak they have scored at least 5 runs on 4 occasions. Whitlock should get enough support for his team to win by multiple runs.
