For New York, a good week looks to be a moot point in the season but for Boston, this solid run has led to playoff contention. Regardless of where these teams sit in the standings, they both have something to play for being July and this game has a great starting pitching matchup that will make for a great game.

Boston Red Sox ML over New York Mets (-120)

The Red Sox have played great baseball in the month of July. Since June 30th, Boston is 11-4 including 7-3 in their last 10 and 5 consecutive home wins. Although winning the stacked AL East looks like a long shot, the Red Sox sit just 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. If they were going to be sellers at the trade deadline, the front office is likely rethinking their strategy. This team can make the playoffs and they need to beat bad teams if they are going to do that.

The Mets, on paper, do not look like a bad team. But their performance would probably qualify them as a bad team. They are 45-51 and just cannot seem to get out of their own way. If the Red Sox just execute, they should be able to beat this Mets team that just has not been able to execute this year.

Under 9.5 (-125)

The starting pitching matchup in this game looks great for a lower total. Max Scherzer will get the start for the Mets and James Paxton will start for the Red Sox. This season, Scherzer has not been the Cy Young candidate-level pitcher to which we have grown accustomed. But his upside always gives the under a good look and he is coming off a start in which he went 7 innings allowing just 1 hit with no earned runs. If he rolls into this game with similar form, the under will have a great chance.

James Paxton has been fantastic for the Red Sox this year. An ugly outing last week raised his ERA from 2.73 to now 3.51, but the Mets present a good bounce-back spot. In the two starts prior to that outing, Paxton hurled 13.2 combined innings allowing 2 earned runs and struck out 10. Look for a return to form and an under in this one due to strong pitching.

Masataka Yoshida 2+ total bases (-110)

Masataka Yoshida has been very good for the Red Sox in his first season in Major League Baseball. He is hitting .317 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI’s with an .881 OPS. That is a very productive ball player. Yoshida has had a productive month of July and gives his props good value. Yoshida’s batting average has gone from .294 on June 30th up to its current .317. This is a guy who is seeing the ball right now and his team is benefitting.

Since that same June 30th date, Yoshida has 40 total bases in 15 Games played. That is an average of 2.67 total bases per Game. He has 15 total bases in his last 4 Games for an even higher average recently of 3.75 total bases per Game. This Red Sox team is in great form and Yoshida is a significant factor behind the good run. Until he slows down, his props will have solid value.
