Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Yankees Under 9 (-115)
To start our MLB parlay, I’m going with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees to go under the total. This promises to be a fantastic series, and it starts with two very strong pitchers on the mound, Luis Gil and Zack Wheeler. While their offenses are also strong, I’m looking to back the pitchers more than the hitters in this one. Wheeler is a frontrunner for the NL Cy Young, and his track record speaks for itself, as he’s failed to complete 5 innings or given up more than 2 runs just twice. With regards to Luis Gil, I’ll admit that I was part of the group burying him a month ago, certain that the rookie starter had been overworked and had hit the first-year wall physically and mentally. Since that point, he’s slammed the door with a trio of consecutive dominant starts.
While both lineups have been rock solid this season and are adding pieces as we approach the trade deadline, good pitching still beats good hitting at the highest level, which is where I am planting my flag today. I am looking for both starters to go deep into the game, followed by the best high-leverage relievers on either side, bringing me to the under in this one.

Seattle Mariners ML over Boston Red Sox (+100)
For the second leg in our MLB parlay, I’m going with the Mariners on the money line. Both teams are in a heated wild card battle in the American League, while Seattle is also within reach of the AL West division lead. Baseball is inherently a streaky sport, and Seattle will look to ride the momentum of their recent 3-game winning streak and the acquisition of Randy Arozarena. Arozarena carries a large sample of history against Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta, as he’s recorded 8 hits, 2 home runs and 4 walks in 26 plate appearances against the right-hander. It helps that Pivetta hasn’t been in great form of late, as he’s allowed 3 or more earned runs in six of his last eight starts including 7 earned in under 3.0 innings against Colorado in his last outing.
On the other side, the Red Sox lineup leads MLB in wOBA against right-handed pitching in July, and their 147 wRC+ is 9% better than the next closest team during that sample. Gilbert still provides the Mariners with the better starter at the moment, as the right-hander enters play having allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in six of nine starts since June began. He is in the midst of a career-best season in terms of ERA, xERA, FIP, xFIP, GB%, and walk rate, performing at a high level in the Mariners rotation. While I don’t expect a perfect outing against an offense of this caliber, Gilbert should pitch well enough to lead his team to a victory.

Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 over Atlanta Braves (+167)
To close our MLB parlay, I’m backing the Milwaukee Brewers on the run line. Milwaukee has been the better side since the All-Star break, and I expect that to continue against a Braves team that has struggled since the break. Atlanta is only batting .220 over its last 10 games, averaging 4.0 runs per game, plus 18 home runs. Milwaukee has a clear advantage on the mound, as the Braves are giving rookie Darius Vines the start (0-1, 7.82 ERA). In Vines’ last start, he went just 3.0 innings against the Pirates and allowed 6 earned runs on 6 hits. The Brewers will send Colin Rea to the mound, who is a much better 9-3 this season while holding a respectable 3.60 ERA. Rea has thrown 110 innings this season, striking out 84 batters while surrendering just 14 home runs all year. I like the value we’re getting with Milwaukee on the money line, so let’s back the Brewers -1.5 in this one.
