Mikel Arteta believes Martin Odegaard will keep getting better and better after signing his new Arsenal contract.

The Norwegian playmaker inked a new five-year deal on Friday as a reward for his immense form since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid, having established himself as a leader both on and off the field.

"Great news for the club and the team," Arteta reflected on Odegaard's new contract. "I'm really happy for him as well, he fully deserves that.

"It just shows there are many ways to make it. There are many pathways to arrive to where you want to be. At the end it's about finding a place where you feel comfortable, valued and where you can express your talent. I think he's found that place. He's loved and respected by everybody and he fully deserves what he's doing."

Finding that comfort was a key factor in Odegaard's decision to extend. Still only 24, Odegaard has already played for six teams in his career and has long been keen to find somewhere to settle.

"I felt connected and at home here since the first day," he told The Guardian. "Also I was moving around a lot and struggling to really settle, so I felt like I needed a place to come, settle down and kind of find a home. That's what I did here, so it was easy for me to commit."

Already among the Premier League's top players, Arteta admitted Arsenal believe Odegaard can keep improving alongside the rest of the squad.

"We don't know [how much better Odegaard can get]," he said. "They don't have to look for a ceiling.

"They have to try to be better every single day, being humble enough to admit there is still room for them [to improve] with what you can do individually every single day, which he does.

"The other thing is the contributions of all the players you have around you. When you have players who have the quality to make you better, that's a huge bonus. You are as good as your team and the players around him elevate his qualities and that’s why he's better and better."
