Matty Healy’s aunt implies Taylor Swift’s ‘TTPD’ tracks don’t tell full story about romance: We know ‘more about what went on’
One of Matty Healy’s relatives has come to his defense.
As fans speculated that several of Taylor Swift’s songs from her brand new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” referenced her brief romance with Healy — including a song titled “The Smallest Man” — his aunt Debbie Dedes argued there is much more to the picture than what Swift shared.
“Nothing surprises him any more,” she told the Daily Mail Saturday. “He will not be surprised by the song. Him and her know what went on.”
Dedes, who is the sister of Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, added, “As my nephew, we know a bit more about what went on than has been in the press.”
She also said he is “very happy” with his current girlfriend, model Gabbriette Bechtel.
Reps for both Swift and Healy did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
In “The Smallest Man,” Swift, 34, sang about a man in a Jehovah’s Witness suit whom she accuses of “rusting” her “sparkling summer.”
Healy, the frontman of The 1975, wears a signature black suit on stage during most of his performances, which arguably resembles an outfit worn by someone who follows the religion.
The pair dated between May and June 2023, right as summer kicked off. The “Maroon” crooner notably received a great deal of backlash for her romance with Healy — which they never confirmed — due to his past racist remarks about her pal rapper Ice Spice and his general outlandish comments.
The 14-time Grammy winner seemingly referenced people telling her to stay away from someone she desires in “But Daddy I Love Him” and she also explored similar emotions in “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can).”
In “The Smallest Man,” Swift also sang about a person trying to “buy some pills from a friend of friends” of hers. The 35-year-old musician has been open about his struggles with substance abuse.
The “The Smallest Man” may also reference Healy’s height. He previously complained that he is “sick to f–king death” of people speculating about how tall he is, despite being 5 foot 10 inches.

The album’s title track, “The Tortured Poets Department,” also seems to allude to Healy’s love of typewriters, which he explained in a past interview with GQ.
“You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the Tortured Poets Department / I think some things I never say / Like, ‘Who uses typewriters anyway?” Swift questions in the song.
When the billionaire pop star and Healy broke up last June, an insider told Entertainment Tonight they were both “extremely busy” and “not really compatible with each other.”
Healy was first linked to Bechtel last September when they were seen locking lips during a PDA-filled stroll around New York City.
In November, Healy and the Nasty Cherry musician shot down engagement rumors.
Meanwhile, Swift has since moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce, whom she went public with last September.
A person close to the power couple told Page Six engagement is on the table.
