Matt O’Riley “Very happy” to Captain Celtic Despite Transfer Speculation
The new season is upon us, but there has been no let-up in the form of Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
The Dane has captained the Hoops in their previous two friendlies, scoring three goals in the process. O’Riley is continually standing out and after his sensational campaign last time around, the wealth of transfer interest in him this summer is unsurprising.
Serie A side Atalanta yesterday returned to the table with a bid of around 17/18m euros for the midfielder. Negotiations are ongoing to find a solution for the transfer which satisfies both the Italians and Celtic.
The 23-year-old has remained fully focused on the Hoops despite the recent speculation, wearing the armband for his side at the weekend.
“Cal will always be our captain, but at the same time, it’s always a proud honour to wear the armband at a club like this”, he said (The Scottish Sun).
“I was very happy. The pitch was really bad but we managed it really well.
“Everyone is looking really sharp. Considering it’s this early, it’s really positive. We feel good.”
O’Riley’s professionalism is next to none. It remains to be seen whether he will be a Celtic player come the end of summer, but he has remained fully focused on the Hoops and not let his head be turned.
