Manchester United and Liverpool have been touted as potential destinations for Thomas Tuchel, with a new report suggesting the German wants to return to the Premier League after leaving Bayern Munich.

Bayern announced on Wednesday that Tuchel would stand down from his role as head coach at the end of the season, with the Bavarian giants in serious danger of ending the 2023/24 campaign without any silverware to show for their efforts.

Tuchel joined Bayern late in the 2022/23 season in the hope of guiding them to a treble, but he only just delivered the Bundesliga title on the final day of the season after rivals Borussia Dortmund imploded at home to Mainz.

He had started that season at Chelsea but was sacked in September 2022, with new club owners BlueCo opting to start afresh and bring in a new manager in Graham Potter. This move was seen as controversial considering Tuchel had won the Blues their second-ever Champions League title a year earlier.

The Telegraph report Tuchel is keen to work in England again and is making it a priority to return to the Premier League, with Liverpool, who will see Jurgen Klopp leave in the summer, and Manchester United suggested as potential avenues of employment.

Tuchel has already replaced Klopp at two of his previous clubs - first at Mainz in 2009 and then at Dortmund in 2015, when the latter took succeeded Brendan Rodgers on Merseyside.

90min revealed earlier this month Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso leads Liverpool's seven-man shortlist of contenders to replace Klopp, but he is now also the subject of interest from Bayern.

The Telegraph's report touts Manchester United as a potential destination for Tuchel amid investment from INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Current manager Erik ten Hag has eased the pressure on his job recently with a fine run of results to propel the Red Devils back into top-four contention, but he may be back under the spotlight if United fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

There is also a possibility of Tuchel turning to international management, with Gareth Southgate's England future uncertain beyond this summer's Euro 2024.
