Liverpool reportedly set to swap Nike for Adidas: how much money will the deal be worth?
Liverpool are reportedly set to announce a new kit supplier deal with Adidas, putting an end to their long-term deal with Nike.
SportBusiness exclusively revealed earlier today (Tue 23) that “following a recent tender process, Adidas is understood to have been identified as the winning bidder in a deal that would run for five seasons, from 2025-26 to 2029-30, reuniting the pair once again after a 13-year hiatus.”
When did Adidas last make Liverpool kits?
The report also states that both Nike and Puma were interested in striking a deal with the 6-time European champions.
Adidas last supplied Liverpool kits and training wear in the 2012 season, and since then they have had multiple deals with various companies, including Warrior and New Balance, as well as Nike themselves.
How much money could the deal be worth?
According to the report, Nike only pay Liverpool a base fee of £30m ($37m /€34.8m) per season, which they class as “a relatively low sum for a top-tier kit deal”. As well as this royalty payments take that figure up to around £50m per year, with the Adidas deal expected to breach that number.
It will, however, not come close to the £90m that Manchester United receive per year, also from Adidas, which remains a world record.
SportBusiness were also told that while Puma were ready to go with an offer, they are “all in” with Manchester City, Liverpool’s recent closest rivals at the top of the Premier League table. Right now, the Merseyside club sit on 74 points, the same as Arsenal and one ahead of Manchester City. All three sides play this midweek.
