Celtic are currently making decisions on the future of multiple squad members approaching a pivotal summer transfer window.

It was announced on Friday that Liam Scales put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the club, keeping him in Glasgow until the summer of 2028.

The defender has been a stalwart in Brendan Rodgers’ team this term and he’s been rewarded for that participation.

Scales’ previous contract had been due to expire in 2025 so there was a sense of urgency to figure out his future before any potential moves ahead of next season.

Now, Rodgers has confirmed talks with other players are ongoing as he continues to put together a squad for the long term.

Greg Taylor in talks to extend Celtic deal

Asked about left-back Greg Taylor’s contract which expires next year, the Celtic boss said in a media conference today [Celtic FC]: “I’d love to keep Greg here. It’s something that we’ve spoken about.

“It’s obviously up to the club and the agent to try and resolve. In the meantime, Greg’s focus is very much on the team.

“I really, really like him as a person – he’s a good guy, he’s very hungry and committed. He’s very professional and he sacrifices a lot to be a Footballer.

“That’s the type of people that you want here. Hopefully, there can be something resolved on him.”

Taylor has role to play but needs Celtic competition

Only Matt O’Riley and Joe Hart have played more Games than Taylor at Celtic this season, indicating how much Rodgers has relied on him since returning to the club.

He’s a leader in the Bhoys dressing room and, on top form, can be an effective talent.

With no comPetition for his position, however, there can be an overreliance on him and that doesn’t always allow him to perform at his maximum.

Bringing in another quality left-back, as well as extending Taylor’s deal, would be ideal. But Celtic can’t just expect Taylor to hold down what is an intense and demanding position on his own.
