Celtic fans were left rightly frustrated on Saturday afternoon given the two late goals the Hoops conceded against Aberdeen.

At the end of the 90, the Bhoys were holding on to their 2-1 lead but Ester Sokler popped up at the far post, nodding home from Junior Hoilett’s cross.

Matt O’Riley then made it 3-2 Celtic midway through extra time but in an almost mirror image of their previous equaliser, the Dons drew level in the 119th minute thanks to Angus MacDonald who, similarly to Sokler, headed home at the back stick from another dangerous Hoilett ball.

The defending for each of the goals was hugely suspect, particularly given the fact they were practically the same.

Liam Scales has been widely criticised for the role he played in the equalisers, but he revealed that he and his teammates discussed the two goals almost immediately after the penalty shootout concluded.

He said: [Glasgow Times] “We will look at what we need to do better.

“We already discussed it in the changing room after the Game on Saturday. We talked about how we could have improved at the goals.

“Obviously Football is a Game of small margins, so it’s about little changes that can help you avoid these things.

“It will be looked at closely because clean sheets are just as important as scoring goals. It’s a big part of what we want to do in the remaining games.”

Celtic know that if they win their next three league Games, they will be all-but champions of Scotland.

To do so, though, they must tighten up at the back after Saturday’s performance. Although it was cup Football and both teams were giving it everything, some of the defending cannot be excused.
