Amidst a comPetitive field, O’Riley’s exceptional contributions this season—amassing a staggering 32 goals and assists in 45 appearances—set a high bar.

Facing comPetition from Rangers’ Jack Butland and James Tavernier, and Hearts’ prolific Lawrence Shankland, O’Riley’s consistent performances are pivotal for his nomination.

On Saturday he was a standout for the Hoops again, assisting Kyogo and scoring a penalty in Celtic’s victory over Hearts.

TeaMMAte Greg Taylor’s endorsement underscores the impact of O’Riley’s efforts. Taylor highlights O’Riley’s consistent presence in crucial matches, with the player popping up in big moments both domestically and in the Champions League.

Taylor said, quoted by The Herald: “In my eyes, Matt is the clear winner. His performances have been so consistent throughout the year and I know it would be a huge honour for him.

“It would be great for Matt that his fellow professionals have voted him as player of the year. It would be fully deserved too.

“Matt has been so consistent for us in big Games and scored big goals. He’s also one who devotes his whole life to the Game, like most boys do now. But when you see someone get success off the back of that, you can really appreciate it and be happy for them.”

O’Riley has been linked to big moves away from Celtic, and if he keeps his performances up, it will no surprise to see him at one of the top teams in Europe’s top leagues next season. But, for now, he has a league and Scottish Cup to focus on.
