The Los Angeles Lakers made a valiant effort to secure more stars at the beginning of free agency. Klay Thompson. DeMar DeRozan. Jonas Valanciunas. They were all floated as potential options.

LeBron James, who just signed $101.4 million contract with L.A., offered to take less money if any other superstars would come and join him. He even personally reached out to Thompson when free agency kicked off.

But in the end – nobody wanted to come to Los Angeles.

In a conversation with ESPN, James addressed the fact that no other superstars seem to want to come and join him.

“It takes two to tango,” James said. “I think our front office, our coaching staff, they tried to do the job that they wanted to do or tried to get guys to come and it didn’t happen. And that’s OK. That’s part of the business. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.”

He didn’t stop there, though.

“So we don’t sit here and lie about or cry about it,” james continued.

“We move on and Klay’s a great player. Obviously DeMar’s a great player. Valanciunas was one of those guys who ended up going to Washington, was someone that was in talks with us, but we move on to see how we continue to get better… I’m looking forward to this fall when I get back out there.”

The Lakers’ options for improving the roster ahead of next season are very limited at the moment. Trae Young is obviously still out there. And what the Atlanta Hawks are demanding of L.A. in return for him is a matter of public record.

Additionally, the front office seems to be eyeing two key role players.

That being said, given how the offseason has gone for Los Angeles thus far, it is hard to be optimistic.

James seems to have made his peace with the fact that the Lakers will likely not make any major moves ahead of next season. For better or worse, the team’s fans should probably do the same.
