Kyle Lowry Reportedly Choosing Between 3 NBA Teams
Kyle Lowry is one of the most notable veteran free agents available this summer. Last year, seven teams were banned from adding him. This offseason, no such restrictions exist.
At 38 years old clearly Lowry isn’t the player he was when he helped guide the Toronto Raptors to their lone championship in franchise History. But as he proved following his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers last season, Lowry can still be somewhat impactful.
After that move to Philly he averaged 8.0 points per Game while shooting nearly 41 percent from beyond the arc. In addition, he also chipped in nearly 5.0 assists per outing.
As things presently stand, Lowry appears to be choosing between three teams as far as where he is going next. It is not as big of a story as the three teams vying for Lauri Markkanen’s services, obviously — but Lowry’s eventual destination is still an important matter.
According to NBA insider Gerald Bourguet, the Phoenix Suns are a team to watch.
“Lowry is still in play [for Phoenix] and the two sides are still talking, but he may wind up back in Philly,” he wrote.
If not the Suns, the Los Angeles Clippers are another squad to keep an eye on.
“I nonetheless heard this week that [Chris] Paul and Kyle Lowry, whose free agency is looming after finishing last season in Philadelphia, are veteran guards said to interest the Clippers,” Marc Stein wrote a few weeks ago.
Obviously Paul ended up with the San Antonio Spurs, but the Clippers remain an intriguing landing spot for Lowry. Particularly given the fact that the team is reportedly actively looking to dump Russell Westbrook.
Finally, don’t sleep on the Los Angeles Lakers. Obviously, Lowry and the Lakers have had several near misses over the last few years, but this could be an opportunity for all parties involved to make it right. Between Lowry’s three-point shooting and ballhandling, he could be a perfect veteran add-on for LeBron James and Co.
Obviously it is possible that Lowry skirts all options and remains with the 76ers, but at the moment it looks more likely that he will be playing elsewhere come next season.
