It has been a busy few days for Kasper Schmeichel. The veteran goalkeeper had his Celtic medical on Tuesday and is en route to join his new teaMMAtes in the USA after his move to the Scottish champions was officially announced last night.

Schmeichel will reunite with his old boss Brendan Rodgers at the Hoops, and on the international front, the stopper is also set for a change of gaffer.

Indeed, Kasper Hjulmund this afternoon resigned from his post as manager of the Denmark national team. Schmeichel’s new teaMMAte and fellow countryman Matt O’Riley will be quietly pleased with the development, but the 37-year-old is rightly disappointed.

He was Hjulmund’s number one throughout his tenure as Danish boss and on Instagram, he bid an emotional farewell to the 52-year-old.

“Thank you for your immense dedication, passion and inspiration”, he said.

“Your leadership and the great memories we created together will never be forgotten. I wish you all the best in your next chapter. You have undoubtedly made your mark on Danish Football.”

Former Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst has now taken the reigns with Denmark, albeit on a short-term basis. He will look to lead his country to a successful Nations League campaign following somewhat of a disappointing Euros.
