The wealth of transfer interest in Matt O’Riley this summer comes as no surprise given his form for Celtic last season.

The attacking midfielder stood out for the Hoops, contributing towards a colossal 37 goals across all comPetitions.

He reached unseen levels as he won Celtic’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

Whether the 23-year-old will be a bhoy come deadline day this summer remains to be seen, especially given the level of interest and pedigree of clubs reportedly in for him.

Interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Inter has been widely noted, with Europa League winners Atalanta previously having a cheeky bid of £15 million plus add-ons promptly rejected.

They have recently returned to the negotiating table, but are not alone in the pursuit of O’Riley.

Indeed, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti claims that English Premier League giants Liverpool are ‘well informed’ about the midfielder’s situation. Whether the Reds, who are under the stewardship of new boss Arne Slot, will pursue a move for the Dane remains to be seen, though.

As time ticks on and the transfer window continues, interest in O’Riley is only going to climb.

Some big clubs are circling, but Celtic rightly remain firm in their high financial demands for a transfer.
