Jurgen Klopp reveals treatment plan for Mohamed Salah injury
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will undergo treatment in Liverpool after he suffered a muscle strain at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah hobbled off with the ailment during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday evening, with the nation's FA confirming the extent of the injury soon after:
"The X-rays that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent showed that he suffered a strain in the posterior muscle, and he will miss the team’s next two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde, and then the round of 16 match in the event of qualification," read the statement.
Speaking after Liverpool's emphatic win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, Reds manager Klopp gave an update on treatment plans for the star forward, revealing that the intention is to bring him back to England to begin rehab:
“That’s the plan. If that’s already decided 100 per cent I don't know, but that's the plan.
“However long he is out, I think probably everybody sees that it makes sense that he is doing the rehab with us or with our people. That's the plan, but if that’s now written in stone already, I don't know. I spoke with him] directly after [the Game], pretty much the night it happened. Since then, he’s in contact with our doctor. The doc tells me the news, so I think he will be back."
When asked if Salah could return to play for Egypt at the AFCON if recovery goes well, Klopp replied: "I’m not a doctor. I would say if Egypt qualify for the final and he is fit before the final then probably yes. Why not?
“That's clear, it's the tournament. Ivory Coast, I am sure it is a wonderful country, but we have no people from us there and their people have to take care of the players who are playing, so let's see.”
