Jose Mourinho reveals future plans amid talk of Chelsea return

Jose Mourinho has claimed he is eyeing a return to football management, though does not want to take on the wrong opportunity.

Mourinho is currently out of work having been sacked by AS Roma in January after being knocked out of the Coppa Italia by bitter rivals Lazio and sitting ninth in the Serie A table. The Giallorossi have since been reborn under the guidance of club legend Daniele De Rossi and are firmly in the hunt for a Champions League place.

The Portuguese has been linked with various roles since departing Roma and momentum has built recently over a third stint at Chelsea.

Mourinho visited Formula 1's Saudi Arabia Grand Prix over the weekend and spoke to Sky Sports about his future plans.

When asked if he will soon return to management, Mourinho replied: "I hope so. I want [to manage].

"Roma was great because we did two European finals in two years and that’s hard in a club that ever did it.

"But now I have to wait for the right opportunity. I want to work tomorrow if possible, but I don’t want to make the wrong decision."

Chelsea fans chanted Mourinho's name during their recent 2-2 draw away at Brentford, as well as in favour of former owner Roman Abramovich. They also sang against current head coach Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Todd Boehly.

Mourinho led the Blues to two successive Premier League titles and four domestic trophies during his first stint as manager at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2007. They were also knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage twice by Liverpool - once via Luis Garcia's infamous 'ghost goal' and then again on penalties.

After successful spells at Inter and Real Madrid, Mourinho returned to Chelsea in 2013. He won another Premier League title and the League Cup before being sacked in December 2015 with the Blues on the brink of a relegation battle.

Mourinho threatened to tarnish his Chelsea legacy with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in his next two jobs but supporters' recent chanting for him suggests this did not have a lasting impact.
